How faith and the Holy Trinity Keep Us

News | February 11, 2025

New artwork from Marie Stephens

The new seating area near the Nursing Mom’s Room has an additional pop of color. Last year, St. Paul commissioned an art piece by St. Paul member Marie Stephens to adorn the freshly painted walls and bring brightness to the new seating area.

Entitled ‘How Faith and the Holy Trinity Keep Us,’ Marie took inspiration from sermons given by St. Paul pastors about how “faith, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit work within us, through us, and for us, to keep us close to God’s unconditional love.” Deep symbolism is embedded into the painting and many of the items incorporated into the work come directly from Marie’s garden and the St. Paul Memorial Garden. Dogwood leaves from the Memorial Garden trees symbolize faithfulness and love undiminished by adversity. Pineapple sage (radical hospitality) and clover leaf (Holy Trinity) come straight from Marie’s home garden.

This art piece is part of a larger renovation project funded by the St. Paul Memorial Committee. New chairs, a couch, and a table in the coatroom are part of the furniture refresh included in the project. Soon, new signage will adorn the walls to communicate clear pathways throughout the building. The St. Paul Memorial Gifts fund supports special projects or acquisitions outside of the church’s budget.

Marie thank you for this lively composition of color. Within the painting you have incorporated pieces of the natural world, my favorite is the pineapple sage. The painting is beautiful and I’m sure nursing babies enjoy the color as well as their mothers. A relaxing atmosphere for all.
