It’s a holy lovin’ jazz concert in the summer-cool of the St. Paul Sanctuary on Bix Weekend — followed by a cafe of scrumptious desserts.
Spread the word. You’ll love this soulful encounter with our Chicago jazz ensemble friends.
Exciting news: Joining the Chicago band will be Howard Levy, widely acclaimed for his musical adventures on harmonica. Andy Tecson takes the lead, with headliner Bobby Lewis on trumpet.
This free community-wide evening of faith-shaped jazz is the band’s debut of their new CD Shining Light.
Howard Levy is widely acclaimed as the world’s most advanced diatonic harmonica player. He has revolutionized harmonica playing on hundreds of CDs, and won a Grammy in 1997.
The Quad Cities is in for a rare treat.
“Howard Levy is a revelation,” says one music critic. “There are times when it is hard to believe that he is playing only harmonica, for he has the expressive range and depth of a saxophonist.”
Also on Bix Weekend: Two Sunday-morning worship services (9:20 & 11:00) of jazz, led by the Chicago ensemble and Howard Levy on harmonica.
Chicago jazz has been a July highlight for St. Paul for a dozen years. The acoustical quality and design of the sanctuary, opened in 2007, provides a prime setting for jazz celebration.
St. Paul is located in the center of Davenport, just two miles north of the riverfront across from Vander Veer Park.
The doors of St. Paul are wide open to the Quad-City community for this jazz joy on both Saturday and Sunday of Bix Weekend. Come just as you are.
