Open your eyes and ears. Notice the summer world around you. Jot down some words…
Gift. Play. Rose. Jump. Sunset. Highway. Oak. Hope. Sweet basil.
Then string your words together into a “wish you were here” postcard. That how you can be part of the St. Paul Summer Postcard Project!
It’s for everyone, whether you’re traveling far and wide, or enjoying the view of your own backyard. It’s for people who hold a ballpoint pen and for kids with crayons. Here’s what you do:
1. Buy a color postcard. A personal photograph makes a great postcard too. (If you’re not traveling, postcards are available in the St. Paul Book Corner.)
2. Take a look around you. Consider how and where you see the hand of God. Reflect or report on what’s happening in your world and your relationships. Our Lord promises to show up in each encounter.
3. Write some words. A couple of simple phrases or sentences would do. You might lace some summer words into a poem.
4. Sign your postcard and date it.
5. Address the postcard to your congregation at: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport IA 52803
6. Affix a 28-cent stamp and drop the card in a mailbox.
7. Send as many cards as you like! Get the whole family in the act.
8. If you need a reminder of the church’s address, help yourself to adhesive address labels at the Information Center.
9. In September, watch what unfolds with this St. Paul Summer Postcard Project. This postcard fun sets the stage for an autumn of surprising goodness and faithful depth about being “a letter of Christ.”
Reclaim the art of postcard-writing. Set aside Twitter and Blackberry for a moment. This summer, take a pen in your own hand, start the ink flowing, and express a piece of your heart.
