September 10: The Brothers K by David James Duncan
In September, we will start at 6:30 with a potluck. Bring a salad or a main dish. Dessert will be provided. 7:00 p.m. discussion.
October 8: “Firstborn” in The Best Christian Short Stories edited by Bret Lott. This is the last short story in this book that we also used last year. Also read “Mother’s Day,” the second story in A Song for Nettie Johnson by Gloria Sawai, which we started reading last year.
November 12: Maus II by Art Spiegelman (we read Maus I in April 2009)
December: No meeting. Merry Christmas!
January 14: Michelangelo and the Pope’s Ceiling by Ross King
February 11: “Exodus” by James Baldwin and “Design” by Richard Bausch in God: Stories edited by C. Michael Curtis (new short story book this year)
March 11: The Quiet American by Graham Greene
April 8: Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky
May 13: “A New Life” by Mary Ward Brown and “A Father’s Story” by Andre Dubus in God: Stories (February book)
At the May meeting, we will have our fourth annual end-of-the-year potluck, starting at 6:30. Bring a main dish or salad; dessert will be provided.
The November book is a 1992 Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel about the holocaust.
